The second in a series of roundtable discussions between Philippine
Health IT and IT industry stakeholders was held at the PLDT Cojuangco building
last September 29, 2015. The proponent of the discussion was Health Level 7
Philippines, an official affiliate of Health Level 7 International.
Health Level 7
Philippines (HL7 Philippines) leads the way in Health Industry standardization with
regards to the transfer/transmission of
clinical and administrative data and information between healthcare
institutions. These standards serve as the infrastructure wherein software
applications used by different institutions can convey and exchange data and
information.
HL7 serves as the
interface between these institutions. This “interface” is the Health Level
Seven International, an organization for international standards organization
whose standards are adopted by other standards issuing organizations such as
the American National Standards Institute.
The number of
participants in the second roundtable discussion was further diversified with
the participation of MedX of HealthInformatics, Inc (Hii) of which eLearning in
Continuing Professional Development for health professionals is MedX’s
engagement. There was MedBase EHR Solutions that offer software for healthcare
providers that include electronic health records, pharmacy inventory systems,
tools for realtime access to laboratory records and results and even billing
systems for health institutions. Purple Bug presented its Mydoctorfinder,
wherein patients can access information on whose doctor is available and in
close proximity for their medical needs.
The roundtable was
also attended by representatives from educational institutions, government and
telecommunications companies.
HL7 Philippines
gathered these participants to highlight the need for “interoperability”
between varied stakeholders in the IT and Healthcare IT industries. HL7
Philippines has the background and expertise in providing the infrastructure to
standardize the means of exchanging data and information between healthcare
institutions, the IT industry, the academe and government.
