The Department of Education has partnered with Samsung Electronics
Philippines in computerization programs that will benefit three schools for
Indigenous Peoples (IP) so as to promote technology driven knowledge and innovation.
An IP school in Region 2 and two IP schools from Region 3 will be the
beneficiaries. DepEd Secretary Br. Armin Luistro explained “education is taken into whole
different dimensions and technology becomes a solution to inaccessibility”.
Samsung Philippines will donate the computerization program that will
benefit 250 IP students from Flora Elementary School, Capas, Tarlac, Pureg
Elementary School of Sanchez Mira Cagayan and Tamale Elementary School of Bongabon,
Nueva Ecija.
To be distributed between the three IP schools are six laptops for
teachers (2 per school) three sets of printer and ink supplies (1 per school),
93 tablets (31 per school), 93 Bluetooth keyboards (31 per school) and 93 units
of Bluetooth mouse (31 per school) approximately amounting to Php4,900,000.00.
Luistro reiterated the importance of this program for the IP communities and said, “We Filipinos are very culturally centered and we hope to make sure that technology becomes a partner for the local community in preserving their culture.”
