This Manila incubator is merging brick-and-mortar businesses with startups

Manila, Philippines – Cerebro Labs, the newest incubator in Manila, is on a mission to enable collaboration between traditional businesses and startups.

Founded by seasoned professionals with backgrounds in law, accounting, and engineering, Cerebro Labs is not your typical startup accelerator.

“We came from traditional professional practice and industries. We have worked in both the private sector and public sector and have more than 100 years of combined experiences,” said Atty. May Quizan, Planning and Innovation Director of Cerebro Labs.

Quizan says that while they are transitioning from conventional industries to technology-driven businesses, they hope to impart their knowledge and expertise to millennial startup entrepreneurs.

According to Cerebro Labs, they believe one of the keys to startup success is striking a balance between creativity and practicality.

Along with the decades of experience of their team in various industries, Cerebro Labs says they are also bringing along their wide network of people from brick-and-mortar businesses and corporations, including real estate, banking, and finance, retail, construction and so on.

Cerebro Labs also seeks to generate more opportunities for Filipino graduates so that they do not have to go abroad to find better jobs.

According to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration, there are at least 10 million overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) worldwide.

The incubator has opened its first startup challenge last January. Winners of the competition will have the chance to win up to PHP 500,000 seed funding and up to PHP 2 million worth of support services including mentoring, office space, and access to Cerebro’s network to different industries.
